Laptop Soup, The Phillipines, and a Revamp

I’m back in China after a trip to the Phillipines where I attended a friend’s wedding in Manila and had the chance to spend time with the bride and groom on the beach in Boracay. It was the most beautiful wedding I’ve ever attended and the beaches in Boracay were pristine – no smoking or eating on the beach. Clean, soft sand and clear blue-green waters as far as the eye could see.

I’m back on the east coast of China now, with a tan and ready to work once again.

Luckily, I am able to dive right back in, typing on my trusty Macbook, which survived after I accidently poured soup all over the keyboard.

Just before embarking on the trip, I was on Skype talking to some relatives when it was time for lunch. I wanted to show off the big bowl of home-made noodle soup we just prepared, so I brought the noodles over to the computer and tilted the bowl to let my Skype mates see. You might be able to guess what happened next. There was more soup in the bowl than I anticipated – the last thing my Skype mates saw was soup spilling out of the bowl and then TSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS “Connection Lost”. On my end, my Macbook screen turned black and the hard drive whirred to a stop.

I must admit, I began to cry.

Pulling myself together, I turned the laptop over and brown savory soup poured out of the keyboard and out of the speakers. I thought my computer would be fried for sure. I managed to borrow a screw driver from a local store authorized to sell Apple products so I could open the computer up and take out the hard drive, which to my delight, was not damaged.

I let the computer dry out for more than a week while I was away and when I returned home, the first thing I did was turn the computer on and voila – the screen lit up!

I should post photos and write a blog about the Phillipines trip soon. But more importantly, Suzannema.com is in need of a tuneup and major facelift. The changes should come about in the next weeks. So please be patient and stay tuned.

I like your writing style. Very entertaining and easy to read. I think you should submit to Globe & Mail.

I like your piece on Taiwan. Very interesting and appetizing! I can almost smell and taste the food you described.
