Hi Suzanne and Canadiana,

Thanks for your query. The Alexa (web traffic stat info site) shows traffic leading to our site at around 1,000 visitors per day with unique IP addresses. We're actually currently at 2,700+ unique visitors/ day, with 3.8 page views per visit. So our monthly stats are just a bit over 300,000 page views over the past two months.

Our blog is not a full time effort... there are only 3 of us, old guys (David, Gary and Jim), who just share a few odd thoughts now and then :-) ... Gary is the crustiest one of the lot. If there's ever a snarly commentary, blame Gary for it!

cheers,
David

Update: Canadiana, I emailed David at the Ugly Chinese Canadian and he supplied me with screenshots of his analytics that do indeed show 1/4 million hits in May 2011. If you're interested to see, feel free to contact David or send me an e-mail suzannebma@gmail.com and I can share the images with you.

Hi Canadiana, This is a stat I got from tUCC. I'm not sure what caused them to receive such a jump in the # of visitors for May 2011. You can direct your question to David at tUCC: tellme@uglychinesecanadian.com

1) During the month of May (2011), the blog hit a quarter of a million page views/month

The UglyChineseCanadian only seems to get approximately 1000 page views a month at the moment according to Alexa. What was with the large jump in May? Was the statistic you used verified independently or was it given to you?

Thanks for this piece. Awesome.
The ESPN MediaZone site is no longer accepting comments on this issue, but here is a link to another ESPN site where the ignorance of some posters is a little sad: http://frontrow.espn.go.com/2012/02/statement-on-jeremy-lin-headline

For the record, I've canceled my ESPN Insider membership.

38 days later...

I think most readers would assume that the busker wasn't white because you specified that he was performing outside a Latin music store (even though that assumption doesn't actually make sense). Plus, I think most people recognize that anyone, not just a white person, can be prejudiced and then act on those feelings. I feel like we should all try to eliminate unnecessary references to race in our speech and writing because all these references do is emphasize physical difference, which is the root of prejudice. I'm done preaching now.

Unfortunately, the fresh fruit is not available in the US or Canada. Regulators don't allow it because of the insect pests and perhaps because it is so perishable.
