Pulitzer Traveling Fellow (China) April 2010 – present

Researching and writing a book on Chinese migration to Europe as the recipient of a Pulitzer Traveling Fellowship, a prize given out by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism as selected by the school’s faculty. Freelance work published in: The Wall Street Journal, National Post, Associated Press, Canadian Medical Association Journal

Multimedia Reporter/Producer, DNAinfo (New York City) September 2009 – April 2010

Writer and video journalist for Manhattan-based news website. Beat: Chinatown. I covered the push to move the 9/11 trials out of New York – a movement that started within the Chinatown community.

Reporter, Associated Press. (New York City) March 2009 – October 2009

Reporter for the New York City Metro desk. Covered local and national news, including the First Annual 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, the mid-air crash over the Hudson River, the storm that destroyed hundreds of trees in Central Park, and the push to add the Muslim holy days to the school calendar.  I was the only print reporter allowed in the Statue of Liberty’s crown when it re-opened in 2009.

Reporter, Ottawa Citizen. (Ottawa, Canada) September 2006 to August 2007

Covered local, national, education, arts and courts for the biggest daily (weekly circulation of 919,931) in Canada’s capital. Wrote crime stories on tight deadlines. Reported on the Canadian military, driving out to bases in the middle of the night to cover the repatriation ceremonies in which the bodies of Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan were returned home. More than 200 news and feature articles published.

Reporter, Globe and Mail. (Toronto, Canada) Summer 2006

Toronto reporter for Canada’s national newspaper (weekly circulation of 2,024,320). Broke a story on subway workers exposed to toxic levels of carbon monoxide which triggered a government investigation and helped bring compensation to injured workers. Also reported on the online desk, updating news hourly on globeandmail.com. More than 70 news and feature articles published.

Production Assistant, Global National News. (Vancouver, Canada) October 2005 to March 2006

Interned at this nightly national newscast, then hired as a freelancer to produce “Rich Nation” – a documentary exploring the tragedies and triumphs of Native American entrepreneurs. Prepared a 30-page research pack complete with pre-interviews, detailed backgrounds on Native businesses. Aired across Canada in Dec. 2006.
